The acquisition of Jacob deGrom means the Rangers have their No. 1 starter. But this move doesn’t necessarily mean Texas is done addressing its rotation. More from Ken_Rosenthal and ThreeTwoEephus:
When healthy, deGrom is the most dominant pitcher in baseball. However, he was sidelined for over a year due to injuries. His 2021 season ended on July 7 due to forearm and elbow injuries, and a stress fracture in his scapula made him miss the first half of 2022. deGrom returned to the mound on Aug. 2, 2022, fortifying an already strong Mets rotation.Asked after New York’s postseason exit if he thought he’d be back with the Mets, he answered, “I have no clue.
Entering free agency, deGrom wasn’t expected to get a long-term deal due to his health. The two-time Cy Young Award winner and four-time All-Star has a career 2.52 ERA, 10.9 strikeouts per nine innings and 0.99 WHIP.The Rangers said they were prioritizing starting pitching this offseason, and here’s the first confirmation. “We are thrilled that Jacob deGrom has decided to become a Texas Ranger,” Young said. “Over a number of seasons, Jacob has been a standout Major League pitcher, and he gives us a dominant performer at the top of our rotation. One of the primary goals this offseason is to strengthen our starting pitcher, and we are adding one of the best.”
The move is a further sign that the team is slamming down the proverbial gas pedal in their quest to end their six-year stretch of losing baseball and become legitimate contenders for the foreseeable future. –The acquisition of deGrom means the Rangers have their No. 1 starter. They also have
