The Portuguese boss is set for a return to the dugout with Turkish giants Fenerbahce. He's reportedly agreed a two-year deal to take charge in Istanbul – just as former Ibrox hero Ryan Kent heads for the exit after a nightmare spell. Mourinho will lead Fener's charge next season as he gets back in the saddle after a shock sacking by Roma during the campaign just finished.
And it's opened up the possibility of a head-to-head with Philippe Clement. After their title challenge faltered in the final few weeks, Rangers finished second in the Scottish Premiership. That means they must negotiate the qualifying rounds of the Champions League if they want to join Celtic in the newly-formatted league phase of the competition. The good news for the Light Blues is that they are at least seeded when they enter in qualifying round two.
They could still phase some tricky opponents though, among them Fenerbahce. They kick off in the first qualifying round, where they are seeded along with Dynamo Kyiv, and will play either Partizan Belgrade or Swiss outfit Lugano. Win that tie, then it's into the next round with Rangers. Crucially, the Turks won't be seeded, which means Mourinho could be trackside at Ibrox if the clubs are paired together. FC Twente and old foes Union St Gilloise are other possibilities. Slavia Prague, RB Salzburg and Lille are the other seeded sides in the draw.
