Queensland will ditch PCR tests for rapid antigen tests from January 1.

Interstate travellers coming to Queensland will be able to use a negative rapid antigen test instead of a PCR test from January 1, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced.“A PCR test will no longer be required. More details in our morning media conference,” she wrote on Twitter.Interstate travellers have been required to provide a negative PCR COVID-19 test result within the 72 hours before entering Queensland.

Once the state hits the 90 per cent double-dose rate, there would be no requirements or restrictions for travelling into Queensland. Currently, the percentage of Queensland’s population who have received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccination was 90.49, while 86.14 per cent were fully vaccinated. The change from PCR tests to RATs comes after the state also scrapped a requirement for interstate travellers to undergo
