[+]In a year that has seen more than its share of exceptional fancy-colored diamonds entering the auction market, one more has emerged: a 13.15-carat Fancy Vivid pink diamond that will likely be the top lot at Christie’s New York Magnificent Jewels sale on December 6. Its estimate is $25 million - $35 million.
The gem emerged just over a week ago, jewelry specialist, Jacqueline DiSante, Christie’s associate VP, told Forbes Friday. DiSante notes that most pink diamonds exhibit a color modifier like purple, orange, brown or grey. However, this gem shows no trace of a secondary color, making it more attractive to collectors. She says Christie’s has not seen a pink diamond of this caliber since the “Winston Pink Legacy,” an 18.96-carat Fancy Vivid pink diamond that sold for more than $50.3 million at Christie’s Geneva auction in 2018.
“Such a large diamond that is a fancy vivid pink without a modified color, places it in a high-ranking position in the auction market,” DiSante says.In addition, DiSante notes that in nearly all cases the shape of large fancy-colored diamonds is modified in order to enhance its color. This gem has maintained its exceptional color saturation in a traditional and sought-after emerald-step-cut shape.
“I think it’s incomparable to other fancy vivid pink diamonds of this size because it is a step cut in which the color speaks to the stone itself without a modified cut to enhance the color. Then being a VVS1 potentially internally flawless, makes this stone absolutely incredible.”
