Chester Zoo's first sighting of rare and 'critically endangered' baby monkey
An adorable baby monkey has been spotted clinging to its mum at Chester Zoo. The tiny new addition is a rare and 'critically endangered' baby Sulawesi crested macaque and its arrival is a huge boost to the international conservation breeding programme.
Amazing primates such as these are at huge risk living in the wild due to deforestation, illegal logging and the expansion of farming land. They are also targets for hunting, the illegal pet trade along with being considered a local delicacy and used as food for special occasions such as weddings. The zoo has conservationists working in Sulawesi to help local communities protect forests and species living in them.
