Ineos chairman Jim Ratcliffe completes his promised cash injection into Manchester United, taking his ownership to nearly 29%.
Ineos chairman Jim Ratcliffe has increased his stake in Manchester United to nearly 29 percent after completing a promised cash injection. The deal, announced on Christmas Eve last year, saw Ratcliffe agree to buy 25 percent of the club, with a commitment to invest an additional $300 million (€363 million) in infrastructure. This final $100 million (€121 million) payment was confirmed by the Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday, taking Ratcliffe's ownership from 27.
70 percent to 28.94 percent. This €121 million injection is part of Ratcliffe's commitment to help turn the club around and will be used for infrastructure investment rather than January transfer funds. Ratcliffe has made what he calls 'difficult and unpopular decisions' since becoming co-owner, leading to around 250 staff departures and the end of Alex Ferguson's ambassadorial role. Recent ticket price increases have also sparked anger among fans
