Wuttunee and Nicotine were elected in 2020 along with seven other councillors, but some members of the First Nation alleged the candidates engaged in “serious electoral fraud,” including vote-buying and forgery, according to court filings.
In a judgement issued on March 30, Brown pointed to a multitude of reasons for annulling Wuttunee’s election. Brown also found that Councillor Gary Nicotine was “directly involved in instances of serious electoral frauds related to vote buying.”
