The US, Spain's Balearic Islands, Cyprus and Italy have seen the biggest price hikes

If you're planning a holiday abroad this Easter, your trip could be more costly than you're expecting - particularly if you hire a car. New research has revealed price hikes for vehicle rentals in popular overseas destinations.

The largest price rise was in the US - more than doubling from £239 to £537. Rates in Spain's Balearic Islands rose from £134 to £310, while the average price in Cyprus jumped from £131 to £248 and in Italy it increased threefold from £119 to £362.The figures are based on car hire broker Zest Car Rental data for more than 5,000 rentals.

Zest Car Rental figures show demand continues to rise, with advance bookings for this year more than double compared with the same time in 2022. Which? travel deputy editor Jo Rhodes said: "High demand combined with a shortage of rental vehicles means prices across Europe and the US are still incredibly high compared with before the pandemic.
