Heavy is the head that wears the crown. A report credits Solana as the PoS protocol consuming the lowest amount of electricity per transaction, but there’s a catch. (Reporting via coindanslecoin)

), one of the most active proof-of-stake blockchains, appears to be the PoS protocol consuming the lowest amount of electricity per transaction, according to a new report.

on Wednesday a new report calculating the electricity consumption and carbon footprint of major PoS blockchains. According to the CCRI’s findings, the Solana blockchain consumed 0.166 watt-hours of electricity per transaction within the study, becoming the most energy-efficient PoS protocol in terms of energy used per transaction among the six analyzed networks.

"The hardware, itself, requires electricity just to be powered on, the same applies also for running the software without any transactions being executed. If the number of transactions now increases, also the electricity consumption does, but the share for a single transaction decreases. Therefore, we expect this to be the case for every blockchain in our study," CCRI CEO told Cointelegraph.
