It will be great to have it back
There is excitement and relief in the Meadows as the Victoria Embankment paddling pool will now reopen for the community to use. In May 2022, it was reported the paddling pool would be closed ‘for good’ but after petitions were set up and locals refused to back down, the pool could now be open as soon as Easter 2024.
Margaret, a member of The Meadows action group, is heavily involved in the community and has been vocal about wanting the paddling pool to return. She said: “I’m gobsmacked and overjoyed. Margaret continued:“I remember the iconic green frog here which is gone now and we used to meet friends here. With a blanket, £5, packed sandwiches and a bottle of pop people would spend all day here.
Hattie Turner, 33 lives in the city centre. The sales assistant said: “I remember when the news broke of the paddling pool not opening and so many people were upset. I have vague memories of coming here as a child but my mum used to take us all, I have three brothers and two sisters.”
