'The smoke was like a war zone, I was afraid for the children'
A community was reeling this morning hours after a huge blaze tore through a Blackpool high street beauty salon - reducing it to a pile of rubble.
Thankfully, neighbouring businesses including The Works, the British Heart Foundation and Marks and Spencer opposite appeared to be unscathed, with shoppers at the latter going about their business via a rear entrance. Similarly, another eyewitness, Michael, said he had been sitting nearby when the fire broke out and described it as ‘ferocious for a small building.’ He told LancsLive: “I saw the flames - it was more smoke than anything else. It was all dark and smelled of plastic and chemicals.
The blaze was a talking point throughout the day, with many expressing relief the outcome had not been worse. One person said: “It’s a good job that nobody was standing underneath when the front collapsed - they would have had no chance.”Meanwhile, the owners of the affected business, Nail Emporium, said in a statement that there had been no injuries. A defiant message read: "Dear all our lovely clients, we are so sad to say today 26th December at 13.
Similarly, Dirty Blondes Blackpool said yesterday : "Due to an ongoing incident at church street, the safety of our customers and staff we will not be opening tonight. Apologies for this, The Dirty B******s will see you tomorrow at 2pm."
