The 34-year-old says that work opportunities have cropped up for him in Australia which means that while he won’t be moving back to Ireland permanently for the foreseeable future, he will be spending a lot more time back in Portlaoise, where he also has business interests.
Retiring AFL star Zach Tuohy has pledged to play for Portlaoise again - but Laois may be too much of a stretch.
Speaking on the LoveLaois Podcast, Tuohy said: “Time is going to be a bit of an issue if I’m living here and working here so that’s one thing. When it was put to him that he’d surely be able to adapt, he replied: “Yeah, yeah, I’d figure it out, I’d figure it out.” “I don’t know if I’ll make it back on time this year but I will be doing everything I can next year and probably for a few years after to come back and play for Portlaoise, again, provided my body lets me which if I get through the next four weeks I don’t see any reason why I can’t put a couple of years into playing club football for Portlaoise.
“I had to, in the first few years that I was away, completely stop watching football and stop following everything and, actually, it was advice from Setanta O hAilpin at the time.
