After 11 grueling weeks filled with glitz, glamour, highs and lows, and captivating dances, Rhys and Laura finally lifted the coveted glitterball trophy on Sunday night after a nail-biting final. They triumphed over fellow contestants Danny O’Carroll and Salome Chachua, Kayleigh Trappe and Ervinas Merfeldas, and Jack Woolley and Alex Vladimirov.
Speaking about their win, Rhys expressed his astonishment saying, 'I don't have any words.' For Laura, this marked her first time winning the show. She shared her joy, stating, 'On Sunday night, Rhys impressed viewers as he reprised his Movie Week role of Spider-Man, dancing the Charleston to the iconic theme tune. Scoring 40 points, Loraine described it as 'exhilarating' from start to finish. Judge Brian Redmond praised Rhys, saying, 'You played the hero, but you're also an Olympic champion. You have become a real-life superhero.' Karen Byrne echoed the sentiment, stating, 'Rhys, you're the real-life Irish Spider-Man. I'm lost for words. Pure and utter perfection.' The grand finale of series eight of Dancing with the Stars kicked off with a dazzling performance by the professional dancers, finalists, and judges to 'Everybody Dance' by Cedric Gervais x Franklin feat. Nile Rodgers. The competition heated up as the couples took to the floor for their first dance of the evening: the judges’ Choice, which tasked each couple with performing a routine from a previous week. First up were Mrs. Brown's Boys actor, Danny O’Carroll and his partner Salome Chachua. The pair danced their Charleston from week two to 'Don't Blame it On Me' by Michael Bublé. Scoring 39 points, Loraine remarked that Danny seemed more 'chilled and relaxed' performing the dance a second time, noting the increased trust between him and Salome. Brian agreed, praising the improved fluidity and energy of the performance. Arthur declared it 'electrifying and unforgettable,' while Karen commended Danny's well-deserved place in the final. Next, Taekwondo athlete, Jack Woolley and his pro-partner Alex Vladimirov revisited week five with their Dedicated Dance to Jack’s friend Kellie Harrington: an American Smooth to 'Grace' by The Wolfe Tones. Scoring 40 points, Loraine called it 'gentle, pure, and heartwarming,' while Brian expressed his delight with a simple, 'The big smiley head on me! I loved this dance tonight.' Arthur was equally impressed, stating that watching them dance to this iconic Irish song was amazing and that their performance would be remembered as one of the best in DWTS history. Karen added that their dance moved everyone, and she was still wiping away tears. Lip sync star Kayleigh Trappe and her partner Ervinas Merfeldas aimed to recapture the judges’ adoration with their routine from Love Week, a Salsa to Christina Aguilera’s 'Let There Be Love.' Loraine praised Kayleigh’s performance, noting a newfound confidence in the lifts. Brian acknowledged their all-out effort and commended their place in the final. Arthur declared that Kayleigh had found her wings and was flying, expressing his pride. Kayleigh and Ervinas received a total of 38 points. After the voting lines opened, it was time for the Showdance - a freestyle performance allowing couples to combine different dance styles and showcase their creativity and skills developed throughout their Dancing with the Stars journey. Danny and Salome danced to 'Rock this Party' by Bob Sinclair. Loraine described it as 'slick,' while Brian said it was 'full of determination and character.' They scored a total of 37 points from the judges. Jack and Alex performed to Years & Years’ version of Lady Gaga’s anthem 'The Edge of Glory.' Their performance earned them a perfect score of 40 points. Loraine praised their electrifying energy, while Brian acknowledged their exceptional skill set, finally on display in their final dance. Arthur was speechless, stating that Jack and Alex would be remembered forever on the show. Kayleigh and Ervinas stormed the dancefloor to the R3hab remix of Taylor Swift’s 'Wildest Dreams.' Scoring a total of 38 points, Arthur described their dance as 'stunning,' while Karen added that it was a perfect way to end their Dancing with the Stars journey
