Rian O'Neill, key forward for All-Ireland champions Armagh, is taking a break from inter-county football. The news comes ahead of Armagh's Division 1 clash with Tyrone. While manager Kieran McGeeney has not specified the duration, O'Neill's uncle and former Armagh star Oisin McConville believes he will return soon. O'Neill was recently playing with his club Crossmaglen, helping them to success in a tournament.

Rian O'Neill was enjoying 7-a-side success with Crossmaglen earlier today as All-Ireland champions Armagh geared up for their eagerly-anticipated Division 1 encounter with Tyrone at the Athletic Grounds.

O'Neill is playing away with Crossmaglen and helped them to success at a tournament in Louth hosted by the Roche Emmets club. After last Saturday night’s Division 1 defeat by Galway at Pearse Stadium - in the first game played at the Salthill venue under lights - Armagh manager Kieran McGeeney said O’Neill was “taking time out.”

But Armagh 2002 All-Ireland winner and current Wicklow boss Oisin McConville told ‘The GAA Social’ that a break could benefit O’Neill in the long run and that he expects to see him playing for Armagh again before too long. And over the weekend Dublin boss Dessie Farrell revealed that Paul Mannion and Jack McCaffrey are set to sit out the 2025 season, with the duo having stepped away from inter-county football in the past.
