The theme park said the rides were temporarily closed to 'protect the health and wellbeing of employees and guests'
Rides were suddenly brought to a halt at Alton Towers on Sunday due to the thunderstorm. The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning across the UK with thunder and heavy rain expected.
Alton Towers said the decision to stop and close some of the rides at the park was due to the 'adverse weather conditions' and was a 'precautionary measure' to 'protect the health and wellbeing of employees and guests.'The theme park's official app showed that rides such as The Smiler and Oblivion were among those that temporarily closed on Sunday. However, it is understood that recent bouts of bad weather have only caused 'minor disruption' at the park.
