To govern is to choose and every time Sunak had had a choice on domestic priorities outside of the major domestic issues facing any government of the NHS, cost of living and small boats, it’s education that has come out on top.

In the Autumn Statement, Jeremy Hunt announced £2.3bn extra for schools. Blair’s delivery guru Sir Michael Barber has been drafted in to help with the skills programme. He isn’t writing some lengthy tome but rather offering a pragmatic view on which bits of the system are working and which aren’t and what more needs to be done.
