Rising star Sorcha Richardson opens up on her connection to Irish music royalty ahead of headline gigs in Dublin and Cork SorchaRichardsn
Most teenyboppers like to look in the mirror and playact at being a rock star. But not many can boast about having jamming sessions while being babysat by one of the biggest music icons on the planet.
“I started taking guitar lessons when I was about eight. My granddad gave me his old keyboard when I was maybe six. I didn’t know how to play, it but I would press the buttons and make songs,” she recalled. “Inhaler are fantastic. I’ve seen them play a couple of times. I really love their music,” she said. “Eli sent me some of their stuff that they’ve been recording and it sounds amazing. They’re definitely ones to look out for. Super talented.”
“But I didn’t really play my first gig singing at a bar until I was maybe 19 or 20 – and that was truly terrifying for a long time.It’s easy to imagine Sorcha having a good auld chinwag with Bono after deciding she wanted carve out a music career. “I had to have that operation, but three different times because there was a few different complications with mine. It was fine. I think if you have cancer and you can be treated without chemotherapy, which was the case for me, then I considered myself to be very lucky,” she revealed.“Every time they’d say to me, ‘We have to do another operation’, I was like, ‘Oh God! Please be careful! Because I really want to have a career as a singer’.
