He really wanted to reiterate the point. Rob Edwards praises influence of fans on Watford's winning start to the Championship season.

Watford players and supporters celebrate after Joao Pedro's winner against Sheffield United. Picture: PAUL CHILDS/ACTION IMAGESThe Hornets head to West Bromwich Albion on Monday for their first away game of the new Championship season, still bouncing after the win over Sheffield United at a buoyant Vicarage Road. The boss said:"It’s really important for me to mention the fans again and say a special thank you.

"We felt very welcomed when we came out and you can’t underplay or understate the power and the influence they can have."After half-time, when we got the goal, they were incredible and they were also great as well when we needed to see things out." The victory was the first at home since the memorable 4-1 success against Manchester United in November but for Edwards it was the performance that counted.

He said:"On reflection, it was great to get that win but it wasn’t the be all and end all. If we hadn’t then there wouldn’t have suddenly been panic stations."The most important thing for me was the performance and seeing the unity of the players – the running, the fight and the endeavour. And the manager believes the togetherness it brought can inspire them in the contest at The Hawthorns.

Edwards said:"There’s nothing like winning football matches to bring out that belief and help players and supporters believe in what we’re saying and buy into what we’re trying to do."I do feel we’re all together and the win cements that."
