He was formerly a PE teacher and started officiating in the Football League during the 2011-2012 season, having progressed through the Sussex leagues and then the rest of non-league. His first Premier League match came in December 2019 when he took charge of Burnley's 1-0 win over Newcastle United. His first game of the season was the fiery encounter between Cardiff City and Norwich City, won 1-0 by the Welsh side but in which both teams finished with 10 men.Andrew Fox and Sam Lewis will be his two assistants on the line at The Hawthorns while the fourth official is Stephen Martin.
