The Rockets head to Monday's matchup with Orlando with the worst record in the NBA.
ORLANDO, Fla. — The Rockets head to the second game of their second four-game road trip with the worst record in the NBA. With a win, they would force the Magic to join them. The Rockets, however, have done well against the Magic on the road, winning in four of their past six trips to Orlando. There was widespread expectation that Jabari Smith Jr. would be the first pick of the 2022 draft with Paolo Banchero slipping to the Rockets with the third pick.
Banchero was always considered the most NBA-ready of the top prospects, with playmaking skills the Magic have immediately utilized to trigger offense in the biggest starting five in the NBA. On Saturday, he joined LeBron James as the only teenagers to have scored 30 points with 15 rebounds in a game. His 22.9 points per game lead all rookies.
Smith is probable to return. He might not match up with Banchero but if he can return to the lineup, there is little question the spotlight will be on both.Technically, Alperen Sengun was not chosen in the lottery. He was the 16selection. But the Rockets’ rebuilding began with the selections of Jalen Green and Sengun while the Magic were reinforced with the additions of Jalen Suggs and Franz Wagner, who like Green was a first-team All-rookie selection last season.
