Roderic O’Gorman, the Green Party leader, managed to save his party from a total electoral wipeout by retaining his seat in Dublin West. Despite not reaching the quota, he secured the only Green Party seat in the Dáil, alongside representatives from other parties. The Green Party lost 11 TDs, including former deputy leader Catherine Martin.

Roderic O’Gorman will be the only Green Party TD in the Dáil as he saved his party from total electoral wipeout.

He joins Fianna Fáil’s Jack Chambers, Sinn Féin’s Paul Donnelly, Fine Gael’s Emer Currie and People Before Profit-Solidarity’s Ruth Coppinger as the TDs for the area. Other TDs to lose their seats include Francis Noel Duffy in Dublin South-West, Ossian Smyth in Dun Laoghaire, Joe O’Brien in Dublin Fingal West, Malcolm Noonan in Carlow-Kilkenny, Neasa Hourigan in Dublin Central, Brian Leddin in Limerick City, Marc Ó Cathasaigh in Waterford and Patrick Costello in Dublin South Central.

Election 2024 Speaking on RTÉ Radio 1 on Sunday night, Mr O’Gorman said that he would not go back into government, stating that it was clear the Greens did not have a mandate.
