A video of the area showed people gathering on the road outside a pub in darkness
SP Energy Networks received multiple calls just before 8.15pm on Thursday, August 24, reporting widespread blackouts in the L1 and L3 postcode following a power cut. Dozens of postcodes, which are home to hundreds of people and businesses, were plunged into darkness with TV, wifi, lights and cookers being cut off.
Another witness said: "Massive power cut affecting Hanover Street currently. Premier Inn has no power, firemen in attendance, Tesco next door not letting anyone in." A spokesperson from SP Energy Networks said: There is a power cut affecting the L1 postcode area of Liverpool. We had no advance warning of this and first became aware of it at 8:14pm.
