Rory Beggan has edged closer to an NFL contract after his kicking performance at a Pro Day on Wednesday in Florida.
The Monaghan shot-stopper is taking time away from GAA with the hopes of launching an NFL kicking career and impressed scouts with a flawless Pro Day. Joined by Down's Charlie Smyth and Wicklow's Mark Jackson, Beggan was the pick of the bunch as he kicked 10 kicks from 10, including from 60 yards.The trio took part in the NFL combine in Indianapolis earlier this month, and reports emerged that scouts were so impressed by their standard of kicking that a contract could be in the offing.
Taking part through the NFL's International Player Pathway Programme, the players are free to sign for teams any time and do not have to wait until the upcoming draft. Teams are likely to exercise that option with the NFL providing an additional spot on roster spots for International players on the programme.
Beggan's perfect performance today, coupled with his experience of playing in front of large crowds in high-pressure situations makes him a good fit for NFL teams.
