Rory McIlroy filed for divorce from his wife on the eve of this year's PGA Championship and missed the tournament's champions dinner as he looks to deal with his personal life in private
Rory McIlroy was absent from the PGA Championship champions dinner on Tuesday night, after documents publicing his divorce came to light.
He has won the tournament twice before, in 2012 and 2014, and is one of the favourites to win this year's event. As is tradition, the organisers hosted a dinner for previous champions two days before the tournament kicks off. "Rory McIlroy's communications team confirmed today that a divorce has been filed," a statement read. "They stressed Rory's desire to ensure this difficult time is as respectful and amicable as possible. He will not be making any further comment."McIlroy will get his campaign underway at 8.15am on Wednesday, sharing his tee-time with Dustin Johnson and Justin Rose. According to the court filing, McIlroy petitioned for divorce on Monday, May 13, 2024.
