McIlroy faces media ahead of his opening round of the PGA Championship and is one of the hot favourites for the event but made headlines are filing for divorce on Monday.
Rory McIlroy will face media on Wednesday as he gears up for the PGA Championship. McIlroy's last major came at Valhalla 10 years ago and he will be hoping to repeat the feat this week.
McIlroy, however, surprised many when it was announced that he and his wife Erica filed for divorce on Monday in a Florida court. The pair met in 2012 before dating in 2015 and tying the knot at Mayo's Ashford Castle in 2017. McIlroy's camp released a brief statement on Tuesday evening, saying "Rory McIlroy’s communications team confirmed today that a divorce has been filed. They stressed Rory's desire to ensure this difficult time is as respectful and amicable as possible.
The four-time major winner will face media today in Louisville, Kentucky in his pre-tournament press conference and is set to speak at the podium at 6 pm Irish time. The Irish Mirror will provide live updates of the press conference right here but it is expected McIlroy will keep questioning solely to golf.
McIlroy's last major victory came at Valhalla 10 years ago and will be hoping to repeat the feat this week.
