To put things into perspective, a third-place prize on the rival LIV Golf Tour this weekend would have brought in almost three times as much.
Rory McIlroy is heading to Augusta National this week with renewed vigour after a promising final round at the Valero Texas Open, earning him the largest prize money of his PGA Tour season so far.
His approach play significantly improved during the final round in Texas, and there were positive signs on the greens. McIlroy finished a distant third, nine shots behind, but his bogey-free 66 in his Masters warm-up earned him a cheque for a staggering $634,800 - more than double any earnings from the PGA Tour this season.
At The Arnold Palmer Invitational, McIlroy matched his previous finish and earned a more substantial $224,750 . This was topped by his earnings of $285,536 for a T19 place at The Players Championship at Sawgrass.
