Figures are on the rise
The number of rough sleepers in Northamptonshire has increased, government figures have shown. In England, the shocking official statistics also show a 74% increase since 2010.
In autumn 2021, there were 12 rough sleepers recorded in North Northamptonshire. However, this has increased to 16 last year. It is a similar picture in West Northamptonshire, with 15 rough sleepers in 2021. This has now increased to 25, according to the new figures. Across England, it is estimated there were 3,069 people sleeping rough on a single night - a 26% increase on the previous year, as the cost-of-living crisis took hold.
But the charity Crisis said the figures released today by the Department for Levelling Up shows Prime Minster Rishi Sunak will fail to meet the commitment, reports the Daily Mirror. The Government said rough sleeping has increased in every region of England compared to 2021 - but stressed it has been driven by a small number of areas.
