West Northants Labour Group has also demanded action from council over the concrete crisis
The Royal and Derngate theatre in Northampton has been closed over safety concerns after Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete was discovered in their foyers. A survey found the presence of RAAC, a material used in construction in many buildings between the 1960s and 1990s, which could lead to structural issues in the building.
"Our staff will work from home for this period. Bookers for shows until the end of September will be contacted in the coming days and where possible we are rescheduling events and performances."Bookers for films will be contacted as appropriate. We are asking that bookers wait to be contacted rather than contacting our box office directly, as they will be working to get to people with the earliest bookings first.
Already more than 150 schools across the UK have been forced to partially close just days before students are heading back for the new school year because they may contain crumbling and unsafe RAAC. These include the Northampton International Academy, which has closed 18 classrooms, its sixth form and a staff room while they check the roofing.
• Detail all support students, teachers and parents will receive should any schools in West Northants be forced to partially or fully close
