Ministers will meet in Wicklow this Wednesday morning for the first Cabinet meeting of the new political year

RTÉ will be one of the main talking points at the first Cabinet meeting of the political term as Ministers meet for an "away day".

As reported by the Irish Mirror on Tuesday, licence fee revenue took another tumble in the last week of August as collection rates fell by 41 per cent.Licence fee sales have fallen each week since late-June following news from RTÉ that it had under-declared Ryan Tubridy’s salary by €345,000 over a five-year period.Elsewhere, the Government is expected to approve a request from Health Minister Stephen Donnelly to examine the establishment of an emerging health threats agency.

The need for a dedicated entity that is not caught up in day-to-day operations has been stressed by various experts, sources said.The head of the WHO recently urged countries across the globe to prepare for the next pandemic, warning that future health emergencies could be even worse than the Covid-19 pandemic.

It follows the Government's decision in May to extend the Temporary Business Energy Support Scheme supports to businesses reliant on Kerosene.
