Ryan Tubridy has blasted the ‘terrifying’ online racial abuse following England’s football defeat as a ‘horrible reflection of the worst of England’ comparing it to a “ku klux klan” mentality.
Ryan told his Radio One listeners: “What was happening after England lost became a horrible reflection of the worst of England. The worst.“And I don’t know if this would happen in any country. I’m not having an anti-England go here, I’m just saying, isn’t it fascinating that people get behind the national side and the manager and all… and then when it goes wrong or they don’t succeed, on a coin, lots of people turn.
“I am begging you all. It is going to be rowdy and violent tonight. All missed penalties were by black players." Whilst crediting the England team and their management as ‘highly regarded’ themselves, he said: ‘I know this is very heavy, but it’s also very truthful to what’s been happening as well as the football.
