RTE Investigates: Bishop Casey's Buried Secrets aired on Monday night and some viewers felt appalled by the allegations of child sexual abuse made against the former bishop
RTE viewers were "appalled" watching a new documentary looking at the Catholic Church's handling of sexual abuse allegations made against former Galway Bishop Eamonn Casey on Monday night.
"Some of the things he did to me, and where he did them... the horror of being raped by him when I was five, the violence. And it just carried on in that vein," Ms Donovan said in the documentary. Following this, he did missionary work for a number of years in South America and then ministered in England.
Despite resigning in 1992, Mr Casey remained a bishop until his death in 2017. He claimed his removal from ministry was unjust and consistently denied all the allegations of child sexual abuse made against him. One viewer wrote: "Appalled at the cover-up by the church at Bishop Casey and so many more accused of child abuse".
