Taking to Twitter, many fans expressed their true feelings with one writing: “Where’s the owl. Late late without the owl isn’t late late.”“Don’t like it. It’s the end of the late late,” commented a third.The new logo has a dark blue background with the Late Late written in white in a bold font in a light blue circle, with many fans believing it’s not “homely” enough for the chat show.
In 2019, the iconic owl was even named Gabriel by the public in honour of the late Gay Byrne, who hosted the show for 30 years. This comes after rumours had swirled that RTÉ was looking to give the show a makeover when it returns in the autumn with brand new host Patrick Kielty at the helm.
