There has been a spate of deliberate fires in the town
Residents in Rushden are being asked to stay vigilant after a spate of deliberate fires in the town in the first half of the month. Crews from Northampton Fire and Rescue Service responded to six fires in the town in the first nine days of April.
The wave of deliberate fires, some believed to be arson, began on 9.30am on Saturday, April 1 at Park Road, when a blaze was reported on the first floor of a partly derelict building. This was followed by a pile of rubbish being set alight on the A6 Rushden bypass in Newton Road on Monday, April 3.A small bag of rubbish was also found burning near the tennis courts at Spencer Park, Washbrook Road at 2.10pm on Wednesday, April 5.
Officers warn that anti-social behaviour like this affects local communities, costs money and pollutes the environment. It can also lead to a criminal record for anyone who was involved in starting the fire. Andy Evans, Arson Reduction Officer for NFRS, said: “We would ask people to follow this advice and make sure that any items that could potentially be targeted for arson are either safely secured away from sight or removed where possible – this way we can reduce the opportunities that are available for people who may want to commit an offence of arson.
