Manchester United need to have a 'massive clear out' in the summer transfer window, according to Wayne Rooney, who's suggested that stars like Marcus Rashford should leave
Wayne Rooney has warned Manchester United it could take them 15 YEARS to return to football's pinnacle - and insists there is only one senior player who shouldn't be sold.
"You have to build the team around Bruno," the ex- England captain declared on Sky Sports post-match. "He's quality and has got fight in him, and then I think all the other players get rid of them." "I think he has had a shaky start but has got better and better over the year," Rooney replied. "For me, Dalot's done well, Maguire has had an in and out season. To compete in this league they need better players.
On Rashford, who has scored a mere eight goals in 41 appearances this term and was spotted firing back at a disgruntled supporter in the build-up to Wednesday's win, Rooney stated: "We all know Marcus has the capabilities to play at the top level, and we haven't seen it. "For me personally the gap won't be closing in the next couple of years," Cole, who won the treble with United in 1999, claimed. "If you look at the gap now between Manchester United and Man City, that tells you everything. There's no way you will close that gap within two years. Man City will look to kick on again next season.
Martial will be joined by Raphael Varane, who's endured another injury-hit season, in departing. The pair's wages going off the books will provide a financial boost for the Red Devils, but as Roy Keane explained, it won't be easy to shift other stars who are still under contract.
