Ryan Tubridy 'at a loss for words' as he pens emotional tribute to Vicky Phelan

Charlie Bird has joined Ryan Tubridy in paying tribute to the wonderful Vicky Phelan

The RTE presenter and CervicalCheck campaigner formed a close friendship over the years and Ryan has joined the nation in paying tribute to the mum-of-two.

"She fought and she fought like few others. Strength, bravery, humour, kindness, generosity, intellect and love…Some of the words helping me describe this extraordinary, iconic woman. "This whole country should be in mourning at the passing of this remarkable human being. My heart is broken. My hero is gone."

"Very saddened at the passing of Vicky Phelan, a woman of great courage, integrity, honesty & generosity of spirit," he tweeted this morning."Our condolences go to her husband Jim, Amelia & Darragh, friends & family."
