The former RTE star shocked his fans and viewers when he announced this time last year that he was planning to step back from his 14-year-long place as the host of the iconic Irish talkshow

Ryan Tubridy has revealed the “epiphany” that lead to his exit from The Late Late Show, one year on from the announcement of his decision.

The former RTÉ presenter's step back from the show, that he had stewarded for 14 years, was a big surprise to fans and viewers at the time. Writing in his column for the Irish Mail on Sunday, he discussed Leo Varadkar's recently announced decision to step down from his role as Taoiseach, and explained how he related it to his own decision to leave The Late Late Show.Ryan reflected: “There was a moment in August 2023 when, like an epiphany, I felt it was time, and after talking it through with family and a few friends , I felt so liberated.”“If I stayed on, I’d let my team down, myself down and my audience down. Nobody would win.

The radio star recently credited his two daughters for keeping his “homesickness at bay” amid his move.I’m loving it here more than I ever imagined.”
