The broadcaster’s new Director General Kevin Bakhurst said Mr Tubridy was still being paid, but less than what the presenter had sought.

RTE is not paying Ryan Tubridy a full salary while he is off air as the payments scandal rumbles on, it has emerged.

He told The Irish Times: “We didn’t reach an agreement so we’re paying him what we think is reasonable on an interim basis.”Mr Tubridy has not presented his morning radio show on RTE One since June 22, when details of hidden payments were uncovered. The terms of a package taken by former chief financial officer Breda O’Keeffe will be examined by solicitors McCann Fitzgerald.

Ms O’Keeffe’s exit package – agreed with former director general Dee Forbes – will be under the microscope.
