Customers have long hoped and speculated that the airline would set up transatlantic flights. A Ryanair statement issued seven years ago, following intense speculation on the possibility, said: "In the light of recent press coverage, the Board of Ryanair Holdings Plc wishes to clarify that it has not considered or approved any transatlantic project and does not intend to do so."
While little has changed since in terms of the possibility of long-haul flights to the USA at a low cost from Ryanair, social media users still hope that there is a deeper layer to the airline's social media response. One said: "Yours for the taking!" while another commenter added: "How about buying your own airport! Imagine the savings! Imagine the slots! DSA had regular flights to all Europe and Florida….! Apparently it’s going cheap for Easter!?" Get breaking news to your inbox by signing up to our newsletter
