A survey by the agency has revealed that 55 percent of people are worried about not roasting the festive bird properly this year

The agency responsible for promoting food safety in Ireland has developed a number of online tools designed to ensure that turkeys are cooked properly this Christmas , as well as reducing stress and food waste ahead of the big day.

The calculator is designed to help people to ensure that all of the food for the Christmas dinner table is ready at the right time, and the juicy turkey can be served at the same time as all the accompaniments. It comes as 41 percent of Christmas cooks say they’re cutting back on the amount of food they’re buying this year, according to Safefood’s survey. While some of this may be inspired by a wish to avoid waste, more than a third of cooks said they’re shopping around for cheaper food options due to the cost-of-living crisis.

“With over half of people who are cooking Christmas dinner this year worried about either under- or over-cooking their turkey, we’ve got all the practical tools you need on how to cook what is probably the most anticipated meal of the year,” said Trish Twohig, Safefood’s director of food safety.
