EXCLUSIVE Sam Womack will be changing the way she lives this year
It’s been weeks since Samantha Womack heard the words “cancer free” and while she has every reason to go into 2023 feeling relieved and positive, she can’t help but fear it will return.
“It would be crazy to say it’s not a thought that lives in your everyday brain, but it’s how that voice affects you. The truth is none of us know [what will happen]. You just have no idea where you’re going to be in 10 years’ time. To focus on worrying would be a waste of the time I’ve got.” “I feel really healthy, I feel really strong, and if I do have any more treatment, which at the moment is 50/50, I’ll have that later this month,” she says. “I’ve only had one session of chemo so far and the genomic tests, which I really hope all women will [soon] be able to have, because it gives you a really clear insight into your cancer cells and how they react in your body.
“I’ve always been physically very strong, luckily, I’ve never had to suffer any other illnesses,” she explains. “My immune system is always really strong, so I think that made me lazy when it came to checking other things. It’s almost like now I’ve fallen in love with my body a bit more than I was before – I don’t take it for granted as much as I did.
It’s something she wants to carry into this year as she plans to open a retreat close to her Valencian home, where people with cancer can recoup and rest.
