A group of around 45 planners from around the country toured by foot the celebrated business district lined with locally owned Pan-Asian eateries.

Tour participants, for instance, glimpsed the old and new when they stopped in front of Jasmine Seafood Restaurant, a popular Cantonese eatery that opened in 1993. There they also viewed the “Tied Together with Noodles” mural, which covers an SDG&E utility box and was created as part of ato beautify the neighborhood.

Planners, including Clyde Evans, who is the community and economic development director for West Des Moines, Iowa, were eager to find applications for their hometowns. “I like the community art project and that’s something that would be translatable to any part of the country,” Evans, 69, said. “You just have to get the power company to agree.”
