SAN JOSE – A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a sport utility vehicle Thursday in San Jose, marking the 59th traffic fatality of the year on city streets, police said.
The city is now just one traffic death shy of tying last year’s total of 60, which was a 25-year peak also reached in 2019 and 2015. At this time last year, the city had logged 54 fatalities. Thursday’s crash was reported at 4:11 p.m. near Coronado Avenue and Cottle Road, according to the San Jose Police Department.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at a hospital, police said. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release the person’s identity once it has been confirmed and their next of kin has been identified.Additional details about the crash were not immediately available.Units are currently at the scene of a fatal traffic collision involving an SUV and a motorcycle.Driver on scene and cooperating.
