Sharks claim depth forward of off waivers from the Winnipeg Jets
The San Jose Sharks on Friday claimed rugged forward Michael Eyssimont off of waivers from the Winnipeg Jets.This season with the Jets, Eyssimont had five points in 19 games and averaged just over 10 minutes of ice time per game. He also had nine points in nine games with the Manitoba Moose of the AHL.
Thought of as a competitive, hard-nosed winger with a bit of an edge to his game, Eyssimont, 26, was Los Angeles’ fifth-round draft choice in 2016 and spent three full seasons with the Ontario Reign of the AHL before he signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Jets in 2021.The Jets placed Eyssimont on waivers on Thursday and the Sharks, with the fourth-worst points percentage in the NHL at .397, were one of the first teams eligible to put in a claim. Simek suffered an upper-body injury in the first period of the Sharks’ Dec. 31 game in Dallas, as he collided with Stars forward Mason Marchment and fell hard to the ice. Simek had been doing off-ice work as of Thursday but still had no timetable to resume skating.
