San Diego's lead transportation agency is on the hunt for a new headquarters to accommodate its 400 staffers, and is considering some of the newest — and nicest — properties in the downtown market.
With its lease set to expire in eight months, San Diego’s lead transportation agency is on the hunt for a new headquarters to accommodate its 400 staffers and is considering some of the newest — and nicest — properties in the downtown market.
Proposed lease terms weren’t publicly disclosed. However, the government agency is looking to pay as much as, or less than, what it is currently spending on rent, Ray Major, who is SANDAG’s deputy CEO of business operations, told the Union-Tribune. A tenant of Wells Fargo Plaza for 34 years, SANDAG started its residency with a single floor in 1989 and has since amended its lease 11 times to tack on additional square footage, Major said. The current agreement expires at the end of September, leaving the agency with a narrow window to find a new home and outfit the space for its needs.
