My Best: The country music singer shared all her favourite things in life including her top restaurant in Sligo, her once-in-a-lifetime safari in Kenya and her top read last year

Sandy Kelly has enjoyed a distinguished career spanning over five decades, however, the moments she holds closest to her are those with her family.

The county music singer opened up about her favourite things in life, from the birth of her grandson Frank Juhan to her close relationship with her niece Sandie. She also shared her most cherished memories seeing country legend Merle Haggard live with Willie Nelson and her regret over not speaking to her favourite actor. One of my favourite personal memories is the day that my grandson Frank Juhan was born. When we received the news that our first grandchild had arrived we immediately made our way to meet him at Sligo General. I could hardly wait. There he was in his little cot, he was just beautiful. I was filled with love and a lot of emotion.

My favourite actor is Richard Harris, such a great actor. I’ve loved watching him in every role he played and one of my regrets is that some years ago while I was being interviewed in a Dublin hotel, I spotted Richard Harris sitting across the room from me but I hadn’t the courage to say hello. The best concert that I attended was while I was working in Branson, Missouri in 1992.

As it turned out that was great advice because every single thing I’d learned before that and from then on to improve my vocal ability and performance made me ‘Ready’ when RTE TV gave me my own series and Johnny Cash then came knocking on my door and everything that followed after that.
