The collision was reported Saturday at San Tomas Expressway and El Camino Real.
SANTA CLARA – One person was killed and two others were seriously injured in a suspected DUI crash over the weekend in Santa Clara, police said.
The collision was reported around 12:20 a.m. Saturday at San Tomas Expressway and El Camino Real, the Santa Clara Police Department said in a statement Monday. Police said an initial investigation revealed a BMW was traveling northbound through the intersection when the vehicle was struck by a Volvo driver traveling westbound at a “high rate of speed.”
“Traffic investigators believe the Volvo drove against a red traffic signal, entered the intersection and collided with the BMW,” police said. A passenger in the BMW, identified by police as a 31-year-old Sonoma man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release the man’s name once it has been confirmed and his next of kin is notified.Related Articles
