Actress Saoirse Ronan surprised fans by secretly marrying her longtime partner, actor Jack Lowden, last week. The couple tied the knot in a private ceremony in Edinburgh, where Lowden is from. This follows the trend of celebrities opting for low-key weddings.
The Brooklyn and Ladybird actress, 30, tied the knot with Lowden, 34, in a hush-hush ceremony in his home city of Edinburgh . It may seem strange to some, but I know why she kept her Big Day a secret - because I did the same thing myself.
I think most of us overestimate the interest others have in our personal lives. Why would anyone care if I announced I was “engaged to be married”? What would be gained by announcing it, like some sort of Jane Austen character? Our small group of close family and friends were delighted at the news, if flabbergasted. They understood why we’d kept it under wraps, although were amazed we managed to stay quiet.
Oscar nominee Ronan, who grew up in Carlow and Dublin keeps her romantic life under the radar. She and Lowden share a €2.8m home in Islington, north London. Graham Norton and Jono McLeod Chat show king Graham married Scottish filmmaker Jonathan "Jono" McLeod in an intimate ceremony in West Cork in July 2022.
