As her music has gotten more experimental, so too has Sasami’s look. Sourcing products from Halloween closeout sales and craft stores alike, Sasami has found a real appreciation for over-the-top stage makeup. “If the Grim Reaper were wearing jeans and a T-shirt, [he’d] be a little less intimidating,” says Sasami with a laugh, describing how street clothes and can temper the theatrics. Nu metal acts have a long-standing tradition of going all out in the stage looks department. In lieu of Slipknot’s terrifying clown masks or the deranged mic stand used by the guy from Korn, Sasami opts for piled-on crystals and eyeliner. Her style, much like her latest music, is a combination of disparate things, a blur of lace and leather.
