Heather Ryan, CPHR, recently became the first woman and the first designated Chartered Professional in Human Resources to hold the position of CEO of Federated Co-operatives Limited. It’s a transition she attributes in part to HR and culture changes throughout the organization.Article content
“On behalf of the profession and our members, it is fabulous to see a CPHR designation holder become the CEO of one of Saskatchewan’s leading organizations,” says Norton Scott.One of Ryan’s first priorities in the new role is to re-establish key relationships. “It’s tremendously encouraging for our whole profession to see this type of leadership gaining strategic traction in companies of all types and sizes,” says Norton Scott. “People-based business strategy is proving to be the formula for long-term success, and business and industry is taking notice. For decades, HR has taken a second seat to finance as the strategic lead. Now that’s starting to change.
“Becoming regulated validates the work we’ve been doing and strengthens the overarching role for HR,” says Ryan.
