Saudi Arabia's crown prince Mohammed bin Salman will host the rulers of Jordan, Egypt, and the Gulf Cooperation Council ahead of a full Arab League summit on February 27th. The mini-summit aims to formulate a united stance against the recently announced US peace plan for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which has been met with strong criticism from Arab nations.

Saudi Arabia has assumed the de facto leadership of the Arab world due to the absence of Egypt. It lost that position by making peace with Israel in 1979.
